SHPBN-2015-004 Modifier SL

  • Effective March 1, 2015, Sunflower Health Plan will deny claims billed with modifier SL if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not declared a vaccine shortage.
  • Modifier SL can only be used to designate a vaccine shortage when the CDC has declared a specified shortage.
  • Vaccines for Children (VFC) – Modifier SL can no longer be used to cover a vaccine If there is a shortage of supply with an individual provider.
