KMAP BULLETIN: UPDATED COVID-19 Vaccine Coverage During the Public Health Emergency
Date: 02/05/21
KMAP GENERAL BULLETIN 20262 (PDF)
Under the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) the following codes are covered.
- Effective with dates of service on and after December 11, 2020: 91300, 0001A, 0002A. The vaccine administration codes are covered for ages 16 years and older.
- Effective with dates of service on and after December 18, 2020: 91301, 0011A, 0012A. The vaccine administration codes are covered for ages 18 years and older.
Providers are not required to bill the vaccine codes 91300 & 91301 at this time. The vaccine specific administration codes must be used when billing for the administration of these two vaccines.
Any provider currently allowed to provide vaccines may bill for COVID vaccine administration with the exception of Rural Health Centers (RHCs) and Federal Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). For these providers, vaccine administration is considered content of service and should not be billed as an RHC/FQHC encounter or as a service under any other Medicaid provider number or procedure code.
Providers who have established a temporary site for mass COVID immunization do not need to enroll the additional location. They should bill using their primary location.
Note: As a reminder, correct coding guidelines must be followed.
Note: For the most current information and verification of coverage, access the KMAP Reference Codes page under Interactive Tools on the Provider tab of the KMAP public website or under Pricing and Limitations from the KMAP secure website.
Note: The changes are effective with the FDA emergency use authorization. The implementation of State policy by the KanCare managed care organizations (MCOs) may vary from the date noted in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) bulletins. The KanCare Open Claims Resolution Log on the KMAP Bulletins page documents the MCO system status for policy implementation and any associated reprocessing completion dates, once the policy is implemented.
